What substrates can be coated with Teflon™ industrial coatings?
Any substrate that can withstand a high temperature cure can potentially be coated with Teflon™ coatings. Examples include: carbon steel, stainless steel, rolled aluminum, cast iron, cast aluminum, hard anodized aluminum, brass, nickel, chrome plated steel, nickel, and plated steel. Substrates such as glass, ceramics, and copper can also be coated with special procedures.
Where are Teflon™ coatings not feasible?
1) On substrates that cannot handle a minimum cure of 350ºF, such as many plastics.
2) Where the continuous operating temperature is above 550ºF.
3) On parts which are too large to fit into an oven. Ovens large enough to coat rail tank cars are available at many Licensed Industrial Applicators.
Are there “air dry” versions of Teflon™ coatings?
No. All Teflon™ industrial coatings require a high temperature cure (>325ºF part temperature).
What are the operating temperature limitations of Teflon™ coatings?
Depending on the specific product, Teflon™ fluoropolymer coatings are functional from cryogenic temperatures to 600ºF. Specific information for each product family can be found in the
Product Overview.Can Teflon™ coatings be used for food contact applications?
When applied according to Fact Sheet instructions, many Teflon™ coating systems are FDA conforming to 21.CFR governing components of coatings for direct food contact. Please note: when using a multiple coat system, all components (primer, mid-coat, topcoat) must be FDA conforming in order for the system to be FDA conforming.

Are Teflon™ nonstick coatings available in different colors?
Because Teflon™ coatings are primarily designed to be functional coatings rather that aesthetic, there is a limited color selection commercially available. In general, Teflon™ coatings are sold in gray, black, green, blue, red, brown, and non-pigmented.
Are Teflon™ coatings optically clear?
Although there are non-pigmented versions of Teflon™ coatings, they are not optically clear.
What is the shelf life of Teflon™ coatings?
Liquid coatings have a shelf life of 6 -18 months from the date of manufacture. Powders have an indefinite shelf life. Please contact us for specific product shelf life.
